Exciting Collaboration with Brighton Lace

I’ve long been an admirer of the lush lace lingerie designed by Brighton Lace so when I met the designer, the lovely Lou, recently we decided to join forces for a lace inspired Valentines treat. The idea for our Valentines collaboration came about at a recent Brighton Etsy Team meet up. Realising we both have a love of lace, and who doesn’t?, we matched up her sizzling Brighton Lace lingerie with my lace inspired jewellery collection for you.

Tuesday Q’sDay

Yes Q’sDay is a new feature on my blog. I’m hoping Tuesday Q’sDay will be a regular post (at least every other week) where I will ask a simple question for you to answer. I am really interested to hear what you have to say so please leave a long or short answer below as a comment.

 Today’s Tuesday Q’sDay:

Think about the last piece of jewellery you bought for yourself. What was it and where did you wear it for the first time?

Blue Sparkle earrings

My answer would be these iridescent blue sparkle resin earrings that I bought from a local Brighton jeweller. I wore them at my Artists Open House. The picture doesn’t show how vivid they are in real life. I really love them!

Don’t forget to answer my question below and many thanks for joining in the fun.

Brighton Etsy Team Blog Hop Post

Well I’ve been kicked into action to write on my blog today. I’m taking part in a fun blog hop with other bloggers in the Brighton Etsy Team.  The idea is to answer the following 4 questions and then to nominate others to do the same.

I’ve been nominated by Victoria Sol to answer the questions and I hope you find it interesting?!? Thank you for nominating me Victoria. And thanks to the Brighton Etsy Team for encouraging everyone to take part.

What inspired you to start your business or Etsy shop?

I started jewellery making as a hobby back in 1999 when I was working as an Air Quality Analyst at King’s College London. Silver jewellery making combined my desire to design with getting messy with metal, I loved it! It soon became my dream to design and make jewellery for a living. I’ve been working to achieve this dream ever since. I opened my Etsy  shop selling my silver and enamel jewellery designs in 2011.

Strawberries and Cream Pendant

We’re looking at goals in the Brighton Etsy Team this month (you can follow along with #btnetsygoals!) Can you share one of your goals for your shop for the next six months?

Recently I put aside a week to do my stock take and plan my business year ahead. It really did take a whole week but I’m glad I did it. One of my goals is to have professional photos taken of my jewellery collections being modelled. When you’re selling online your photos need to be as good as if you are seeing the jewellery in real life. I’ve had to save up for a professional photo shoot but now I’m finally ready. My aim is to do this in March so watch this space.

What are you working on at the moment?

I always have many things on the go at once. I’m working on a new jewellery collection right now. With a background in Biology I’m drawn to the natural world and love abstracting shapes from this in my designs. I like clean lines, bold shapes, textures and strong colours. My new collection is focused on these elements.

I’m also working on a very special jewellery commission to make wedding rings for some friends of mine. I can’t show you too much at the moment as it is a work in progress but here is a sneak peak…

Geoff Cathy Ring Sneak Peek.41-2

If you could give other sellers or someone looking to start their own design/craft business one piece of advice, what would you say?

Don’t be afraid to start. You can keep on learning and improving as you go. I’ve learnt so much since I opened my Etsy shop in 2011 from reading and talking to other Etsy sellers. I’ve also taken many jewellery courses and will continue to do so. There is so much more I want to learn. The learning process never ends. Evolve and grow while you learn.

I’ve really enjoyed writing this post. How did I do? Please leave your comment below.

I would like to nominate Mrs Lovedays and Harper and Finch. Good luck and I look forward to reading your posts!

Merry Christmas and Huge Thanks!

Here’s a photo I took of the West Pier, Brighton a few years back when we had freakish snow on the beach.

west pier

I’m finally winding down for Christmas… My online shops are now closed. My final Christmas Order is going to the post office today. I’ve got a couple of Jewellery Commissions to work on today, then a Wedding Ring Fitting and my final Jewellery Class of 2014 on Saturday. Then I am taking a well deserved break to recharge the batteries.

There is only one thing left to do and that is to wish you all a fantastic Christmas and to thank all of you for your support in 2014. Thanks especially to my customers, jewellery students, readers of my blog, followers on social media, Brighton Etsy Team mates and not forgetting friends who’ve supported and recommended me throughout the year. It’s been an emotional learning curve this year but it’s ended on a high.

Thank you everyone and see you in 2015!
