Today’s gem of the day is this charming brooch by Avery Lucas. The materials used here are brass, copper, enamel, citrine, and cubic zirconia. A beautiful piece of jewellery definitely does not need to be made from precious materials. As well as Avery’s production jewellery range she has produced the most stunning anatomical metalsmith pieces.
Avery says ‘The cellular slice brooch (above) is a one of a kind and was made after some research into micro organisms and cell structures as seen under a telescope. I also wanted to developing one of these cell structures using the circle as a major motif. I am always interested in exploring color and using metal as a painting or drawing medium. Enamel was just the perfect pairing!’
You may have noticed our similarities in biology, metal work and enamelling. This was not intentional but I do seem to be drawn to work by people with these interests !
