Design Inspiration – Ethnic Adornment

I’m greatly influenced by ethnic jewellery from around the globe. The variety in history that can be found is amazing. The use of precious and semi precious materials together with fabrics, seeds, leather, feathers, glass etc is fascinating.

The historic use of jewellery in ritual, ceremony and religion is very interesting. The meaning and power given to stones and materials in jewellery is enlightening.

Jewellery can be used as a form of body adornment or as a form of identity or even instead of money for bartering.  The diversity in value and meaning of jewellery both historically and today is so engaging I can only be inspired by it.

Where have you seen the most beautiful ethnic jewellery? What country was if from? Was is modern or antique? What did you find most inspiring about it?

Look out for future posts on ethnic jewellery as I feel inspired to write more.
