TheBigForest at Craftaganza Live

Yesterday I went to the second Craftaganza Live event hosted by Zoe Edwards and Sarah Meredith. They invited Michael from TheBigForest to talk about their company and the creation of their magical bears.

TheBigForestBears

Michael imparted invaluable information on his background, influences, how their business has developed and where they want to go from here.  There was so much that I found useful but what I will take away with me is the passion for their product and the stories that go with each individual bear they make. What also came across is their love for their customers and wanting to remain connected to the people who home and love their handmade bears. Very inspiring indeed.

Craftaganza Live is a monthly event in Brighton with guest speakers and a chance for local creatives and self-employed artists to meet and socialise. Well worth going to.

Artists spaces in Brighton

Happy New Year everyone ! I hope 2012 is a good one for you. If you’ve set goals I hope you achieve them. If you’ve made new year resolutions I hope you stick to them.

One of my goals is to enjoy more free time and take time to relax. Strangely this is harder than it sounds, for me anyhow.

Anyway, looking back on 2011 the main thing that sticks out is how lucky I am to be part of a fantastic bunch of like-minded creative people at Coachwerks. Coachwerks has artists spaces to rent in Brighton. It houses a multitude of mixed discipline artists and crafters. There are a core of fantastic people who literally built the spaces inside and it’s very cool. Coachwerks creative community is growing all the time. If you’re thinking of rekindling your creativity in 2012 then why not do it at Coachwerks.

There are artists spaces at Coachwerks available now:

All spaces include WIFI, bills, large shared indoor and outdoor spaces, 24/7 access, free on street parking & friendly other peeps.

*Studio 02 – self enclosed, bepoke birch interior, approx 3.5 sq. metres. £175 pcm
*The Big Studio – 1 space available – £110pcm

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,000 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.

Merry Christmas wishes to you all !

Today I am doing my last Christmas fayre of the year and as we have snow forecast today I am feeling particularly festive. So I just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and thank everyone who has supported my work this year. It has been an amazing year and I have many people to thank.

Firstly,  a huge thank you to everyone who has taken an interest and followed my blog here. I’ve really enjoyed writing over the last 12 months.

Then I want to extend a huge thank you to my clients who have commissioned jewellery this year. This is the most significant part of my work and keeps my creativity flowing. Every jewellery commission is different and exciting and it is great to design something so personal and unique each time. Of course I can’t forget my wonderful customers who’ve supported my Etsy shop throughout 2011.

Thanks too to the organisers and members of the groups that I belong to namely Coachwerks, British Society of Enamellers, Brighton Etsy team, Brighton twitter social meetup, Dean’s business club, Craft Central Network and Benchpeg. These are vital networking groups that I could not do without.

Also, I want to thank my fellow artisans and jewellers around the world for your communication and support. I love our creative community and thanks for keeping it handmade.  I’d like to thank those who’ve followed me on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Pinterest, StumbledUpon.

And last but definitely not least I want to thank my friends who have also taken the plunge into self employment. You have been a massive support to me and I’m so happy to watch your success.

Thank you everyone and Happy Christmas !

Coachwerks Winter Fair – some photos

If you couldn’t make it Brighton for Coachwerks Winter Fair here are some photos.  The stalls looked amazing, the brass band played and we sang carols, many people decorated willow wreaths for their front door. There was a story teller in the grotto for the kids.  It was such a lovely christmas event.

My highlights were Jewellery by Claire Witz of Silversea, natural dyed fabrics and ribbons by Jessica Harte, screenprinted textiles by Georgia Novis of Florrie and dreamy illustration by Jacqui Clark.

To be sure to keep up to date with all events at Coachwerks Brighton be sure to follow their blog.

MORE INFO:

WHO: The Brighton Mummers are a group of enthusiastic and excitable performers who have been producing plays in Brighton for five years. We write our own scripts and generally perform in non-standard theatre spaces: pubs, streets, people’s houses etc. We are the lords of misrule in disguise – we delight and ruffle the feathers of our audiences with humour and mystery!

WHAT: Mumming is an ancient form of British ritual performance, with original scripts recorded from all over the country. For more info start here: www.mastermummers.org

MORE ON OUR NEXT PLAY:

The Sussex Apple Play has been written to celebrate the annual apple harvest in Stanmer Park orchard. As with most mummers scripts, our play is farcical nonsense; an expression of joy to herald the turning season. Although sometimes dark in tone, it is a play that both adults and children will enjoy.
